Brown Patch also known as Large Patch and Rhizoctonia Blight

This Grass disease is common in St. Augustine grass. It appears mainly in the cooler months when temperatures are below 80 degrees in November - March. Too much watering, rainfall and humidity are all triggers for this disease. The area of the grass nearest to the soil is affected first, this area will then rot, have an oder and begin in one foot sections.

The good news is the roots will not be affected however mowing the lawn can actually spread this disease through your lawn, so be sure to mow this area last and clean your mower blades after use. Check with your local home improvement store for effective fungicides.
